Housing’s Share of GDP Just Slipped… Here’s Why That Matters

Recent analysis of Bureau of Economic Analysis databy the NAHB’s Eye on Housingfound that Housing’s share of the economy was 16% in the fourth quarter of 2025 – down from 16.1% in Q3 and is also lower than one year ago. The graph below plots the share for housing services and RFI (residential fixed investment) along with housing’s total share of nominal GDP.
